Parent Teacher Interveiw Part Le Two

So we went to see the grade three teacher at 5. Each interview is slated for fifteen minutes. We were in there for thirty eight.

Yes I kept track.

Rainbow man is having a lot of trouble in school. Curriculum wise, Language arts - reading, printing etc. is his main trouble spot.

We decided on a game plan for that.

The other big problem he is having is his ability to focus and stay on task in school. Its pretty sad that he is side by side two boys who are also known chatter boxes and each of them has asked the teacher privately if they could be moved because RM is always talking and distracting them.

I am not quite sure how to deal with this part.

He is very disorganized - losing his books, not bringing home homework and the like and we have a few plans in the works to deal with this. If they seem to work I will bog about them, but for now, they are under wraps!

I hope you do not think I am being too forward, but have you thought about having him tested for ADHD? I went through the same thing with my son, starting in second grade. It was a VERY hard decision for me, since I did not want to put him on medication. He was tested, and 6 months later was diagnosed with it. It was a long process of in class observations, talking with therapists, answering tons of questions. I had to fill out surveys of his behavior and attitudes. It was rough to be honest, but in the long run it was worth it. He is now in 6th grade, and doing so well. We went through a lot of different treatments and medications, but in the end, it's ritalin that works for him. I was so against this med., but it was a last resort. Our Doctor, who has seen him since he was an infant, felt we should try it. Ryan now takes 20mgSR in the morning, and a 10mg booster at school after lunch. It was only last year that we finally found the right dosage for him, it was a long, slow process. I had to realize that even though I didn't like the fact that he NEEDS this medicine, it is what is best for him.
Okay, I've rambled. I hope you don't think I'm being pushy, that is not my intention. I've just been where you are, and I know how frustrating it can be. Feel free to visit me if you have any questions. ~jenn
