A New Addiction

I've written here, countless times, about different facebook applications I love. Usually I write about Pull Tabs, but I have a NEW addiction now.

Face Book Keno.

Keno is one of those games that if I saw it in a casino I would RUN the other way, becuase it has odds that are impossible, but on Face Book, I do not have to worry about losing real money LOL. At first, keno pretty much sucks, becuase you do not win a lot, but after a few days, you have won enough to get your dailies up. As soon as your dailies get high enough, you can bet more and really start winning.

I have been not only playing my daily amount in Keno every day, but trading my other apps daily amounts for keno as well!

In fact, I am playing keno right now!

OMG

So I have been using the net to converse with Doctor Google. I have a nasty disgusting PAINFUL zit on my shoulder. I've tried using Parker's face wipes and my face wash - which is supposed to fight acne, but it is still there. And it hurts!

I figured Doctor Google would have either an actual it remedy or some old wives tales that I could try, Cause seriously? At this point, I just want it gone.

You would NOT believe how many products are out there to help people with acne. From Zeno which literally burns the bacteria out of a zit (It doesn't burn your skin apparently) to putting Toothpaste on a zit and then freezing it with an ice cube!

I ended up closing my browser more confused than ever, but hey, I'm willing to give even frozen toothpaste a shot! Wait. How am I supposed to freeze the toothpaste?

Crime and Punishment

Today I opened the corner cupboard where we keep the spatulas, intent on getting my big wooden fork to break up the hamburger I was cooking. Instead, I found Hubs Slushie cup ...With a dirty pair of socks in it!

I knew the socks hadn't been there earlier in the day so I did a quick check on the boys feet.

Only Blake was barefoot.

"Blake, where are your socks?" I asked, watching his eyes. Sure enough, he glanced at the cupboard before answering "I don't know."

His punishment was tow ash the dishes in the sink, as well as his daddy's cup.

He was drying the dishes when his brother started to set the table.

"I hafta do the dishes cus of my socks" he told Parker, "Have you ever done the dishes? It's Quite complicated!"

I found that so amusing!

What's even better, he did a fine job washing, drying and putting away the dishes. I had always considered him too young to do such a big chore, but no more! I;ve found my newest dishwasher!

Parker will be very pleased to hear this!

Still looking (hint - HELP ME)

I am still searching for a way to get the videos I take with my camera - a regular digital camera not the actual digital video camera, which bit the bullet - to fit onto Windows video so I can edit them.

The file is too big for me to upload to YouTube and the wrong format for em to get it onto Windows Video so I can edit them! If you can help, please either leave me a comment (You can put links into the comment, moderation won't eat them) or email me. You can find my email information in my Blogger Profile.

Thanks!

Family

My Grandfather on my Mother's side as well as my aunt and uncle came down today. I haven;t seen any of them since my fathers wedding a few years ago, so it was really nice to catch up with them. I felt bad becuase all I could offer them was coffee. I don't have any good appetizer recipes, though I have looked for some in the past.

What I would really love is to find something I could make, freeze and then take out and have it heated up and ready to eat in under half an hour. I have recipes for squares and cookies and the like, but my family was here right around supper time and I had nothing that wasn't labor and time intensive to make!

I have found that a recipe from a real person always works better than a recipe from some website. What do YOU have in your freezer, ready to be pulled out and warmed up in a moments notice?

10 months and counting

Speaking of travel insurance..oh? We weren't? Lets remedy that, shall we?

In ten months Hub, the boys and I will be taking a real "grown up" vacation. Prior to this, all we had done was pack up the car and head to a camping spot for a few days to a week. This time, we will be packing up the car and leaving the province for a week!

We will be heading to the big Dinosaur museum, and spending a night in that town, the we will head an hour away from there (not sure the direction we will go, is this something I need to know?) (meh, that's what a printer and google maps is for, eh?) We will head for the city of Calgary to check out Calloway park, maybe the big Zoo, and then drive up for the day to the mountains.

We are still in the budgeting stage of the trip, we know "about" how much we will need but would like to have half more of that saved before we go, just in case, ya know?

I was actually thinking about *shame* applying for a credit card before the trip to take with us as an "In case of Emergency break Glass" precaution, but I am not sure how credit cards really work. Can I get a credit card and cancel it after the trip, even if we haven't used it at all? What kind of fees might we be looking at for canceling - and even applying for one?

I KNOW you all have used credit cards, help me out! Recommendations are greatly approiciated!

post #445

Isn't that amazing?! this is the 445th post I have written. When started this blog we had no dogs, and now we have two. I had one child in school and now I have three!

A blog is an awesome time keeper. I love going back a year from the days date and reading what we were doing! I assume a lot of people do that as well?

~~~~~~~~~~
The boys are going to be clowns for Halloween, my MIL made them costumes. They are pretty excited to start - more for the candy than to dress up! I bought a bunch of face paint at the Dollerama, but it's not very good, I need to remember to pick some of the better stuff up.
There is a box of chocolates - Reeces Pieces, Reeces Peanut Butter Cups and O'Henery's in the cupboard - they are SCREAMING my name! We had bought a thing of play doh - 80 individual containers, and plan to give that out for halloween, and the box of chocolates is a Just in Case kind of thing. If we have less than 80 kids, the chocolate is ALL MINE.
I guess, if you stop to think about it, the boys get their love of candy from me!
arrrg
So. My sister is still planning on heading for the states in March. Right now she has the flu, she just finished having something else? Maybe laryngitis? She is STILL fighting her blood pressure, and yet she plans on getting pn a plane and flying to the states in just five more months.
She has told me she plans to or has picked up health insurance, like NC health insurance, and that's great, but she is still freaking insane!
Imagine flying 12 billion hours, a couple thousand miles from your friends family and home to meet some dude from the internets!
Halp!
Does anyone know how to make video files smaller? I have a few AVI videos from my camera that I want to download and edit to make a puppy play video, but either my file type is wrong or the file is too big.
Anyone know?
Bueller?
Questions
When I started Where Was I? it was with the intention of asking Questions and hopefully receiving answers. This blog has gotten a little off course becuase I am narcissistic and most posts tend to become all about me.
Today, we will get back to the basics of this blog.
Here, In no particular order, are two questions. If you know the answer, leave it in the comments section of this post!
1. Why do Scrapers steal blog content and how do they deiced what content to steal? I have seen some scraping sites that just take the first line and then say to read more, go here and have a link to the post they have taken. Are they scrapers? or would they be more like random linkers?
2. What is the difference between acne and plain run of the mill pimples. Is it acne only when it scars? Are acne pimples different than other pimples? Does it have something to do with the frequency or amount of blemishes you get? I've always wondered this. I see a lot of people walk around with scars all over their faces from acne, and wonder, why did they get acne so bad? Is it in their genes? Is it something I need to worry about for the boys? Hubs and I both had troublesome skin as teens, so I assume the boys will be fighting their faces as well, but will it be JUST troublesome, or will it be worse?
Why "Stumble" is the ebest thing on the Interwebs
Whenever I have nothing to do, the dishes are washed, and my Google feeds have all been read, I click my Stumble button. Stumble is AWESOME. It's a user based rating system, so when you cross a page it is becuase a bunch of other people have found it amusing/insightful/sad etc.
With Stumble, when you sign up, you are also given a huge checklist where you can click what you are interested in, cats, babies, cartoons, games etc, etc, etc.
So today I hit the Stumble button, and found this cartoon. Remember that astronaut who traveled cross country in an adult diaper for "love"? I had forgotten all about that story until this afternoon when I stumbled it.
I am not sure if stumble is only for the FireFox browser or if you can download it for other browsers, but you should be using FireFox anyway, not only is it an awesome browser, but I use it! And what I do, YOU should do!
SO Fitting!
I followed a link by a fellow twitterer today to the Bloggers Choice Awards page, after checking out the blogs I read and love, I decided to continue on trough the pages to see if any other blogs whom I knew of had made it in.
Seems Perez Hilton won an award. First place to be exact!
If the photo is too small to read, it says : Most Obnoxious Blogger And the best part? He won with a score of 666 votes.
I keep PH in my feeds because like it or not, he does get a lot of scoops. he often knows before anyone else who is doing what. But PH is a great appetite control aid becuase I tend to lose my appetite every time I read his snarky rants against people. I hate the little white dots he draws on photos, I hate that he is so mean to celebrity kids - just becuase their parents are in the lime light doesn't mean a person is allowed to bash a child!
I much prefer to read Michael K over at D-Listed. He know, almost as quickly as PH what is happening in celebuland!
Sometimes Twitter makes me Jealous
So i was on Twitter yesterday when two bloggers I know started talking about how they were asked by a company to try their weight loss pill. Or supplement, or something. But they were asked to try it for FREE!
I'm not sure where to find diet pills that work, but if I was offered some for free I would be ecstatic to try it out and see for myself!
Then a blogger who had just two days before complained that she needed a new digital camera twitted today that she was giving away a camera on her blog. I wonder if she got to keep one and gets to have the second one for a contest...
How DO bloggers do this? How do they get out there and known so that companies contact them and offer them products for contests and products just for a review on their blog?
Yeah. Some days, twitter makes me jealous!
A Spot free clean?
How do you clean your bathroom (and kitchen) faucets?
I use a toothbrush on my bathroom faucets - there always seems to be grime around the edges of it, and then wipe down the faucet itself with whatever cleaner I have out at the time.
It looks great when I first do it, but no matter what I use, it always dries with spots on! What is the point of cleaning it all when it still looks spotty in the end?
Do I need to use a special cleaner? I know using vinegar and water on mirrors makes them Streak free, but will it make my faucets shiny OR will the acid in the vinegar harm the finish on my faucet?
I always look when I am at other peoples homes and they always have nice shiny faucets and I want that too1
And so the fluff came home
Yup. A puppy update!
Sammi is pretty cool! She is definitely a people puppy, which is both good and bad. Good becuase she is so cute and adorable AND LOVES TO BE CUDDLED! Bad becuase she is not able to amuse herself yet. someone needs to be playing with her whenever she is awake, and that's hard, even for a family of five. If no one is playing with her, she cries and cries. This morning I ended up putting her in the kennel - we were all busy - and covering the kennel with a blankie. She was still int he living room and could hear us, but she needs to be physically held or played with on the floor to be happy. After I put the blankie on her kennel she quieted down within a minute and fell asleep.
Smokey and Sammie are getting along together so much better than I ever imagined. At first smokey was excited about the puppy, wanting to sniff sniff sniff her, but after a day with no real response from the puppy, Smokey decided the puppy was nothing to bother and ignored it. Unfortunately for Smokey, and awesome for us, Sammi has grown comfortable enough in the house (she was terrified of the floor the first day and a half, having never before been inside in her short life) to really start playing. Sammi;s favorite game to play is bite Smokey's toes. Smokey is overjoyed at this development, but still doesn't understand that no matter how many times she brings toys to drop in front of Sammi, Sammi is just not big enough to play with those toys.
Watching the two of them run and jump and play is just the finniest thing ever! I have some video I have been taking and am going to try to crop and snip it into a video for all of you. I haven't time right now, but very soon!
But I have a good reason
NONE of my blogs have been updated in a while. On Friday we went to my fathers house to pick up our new puppy, only to return home to the news that Hubs uncle D had passed away. He had no history of heart disease and had only , in the past six months, been diagnosed with high blood pressure which he had been treating with medication.
His daughter had driven down on Wednesday to spend his birthday with him, and had decided to stay on through the weekend so they could spend thanksgiving together. She had her three year old son with her.
On Friday morning, when her father did not answer her calls to breakfast, she entered his room and found him. He had had a massive heart attack in the night. His funeral will be Friday - Hubs has been asked to be a pallbearer, an honor he accepted readily.
This is a sad and scary time for our family right now. Sad because Uncle D was well loved, and scary because Hubs dad had a major heart attack 13 years ago this month. He had a quadruple bypass and is on approximately sixty million different drugs - some for high blood pressure, a lot for his heart - blood thinners and the like, and even more medicines to deal with the stroke he had eight years ago.
Uncle D is a year and a week younger than Hubs father, and was in almost perfect health! I worry about my father in law almost constantly, and this, well, this is my worst nightmare!
Posting will be slow, I need to get my feet back under me!
OMG - I just died from Teh Cute
In the morning, before I am out of my room, Parker and Blake put the dog out to pee. Blake has started scribbling on the condensation on the window.
This morning when he was waiting to let the dog back in, I saw him scribbling, but never went over to see what he was writing.
I just opened the door to let the dog out again :
Can you tell what it says?
Questions I can't ask
My mom dies when I was 17, she had lung cancer. At the time, I did not realize that the older I grew, the more questions I would have for her.
I found out VIA my father that she had lumpy breasts like me and had the same pain I deal with. But I can;t ask my dad about her period. Mine has gotten weird ever since my tubes were tied, and I wish I could ask her about it.
I never had her by my side during my pregnancy's and the births. I did not have her there, available for me to call when my kids were tiny. Hell, she isn't there when I need to ask questions about my soon to be 9 year old!
I wish that I had the time to ask her these things.
Sleepy Time
We caught half of season one of Smallville on TV quite a few years ago, and really liked it. The next September we bought the season on DVD and started watching one episode on Saturday nights with the boys. We are now on Season Seven. Logan, When we first started, was an infant. He does not enjoy Smallville like the rest of us do, and I think it;s due to his age. Or the fact that he sleeps through 99% of the episodes we watch.
This is how he fell asleep last night.
Thursday, October 2, 2008
Bah
I woke up this morning with a bunch of big zits on my face.
This PISSES me off.
That will be all.
Wednesday, October 1, 2008
Welcome to the Twilight Zone
Today was Logan's very first day of school. We left home at 12:10 and I was back home (alone) by 12:40. When logan and I left, the world was normal, the sun was out and birds were singing. lady bugs were holding flying contests in the grass. But when I returned home, every thing had changed.
I know that such things as alcohol rehab and drug treatment centers exist, but please, I must Know, where can I find a home decorating treatment center?
Before I show you the following photo, let me make clear a few things. My father in law has told me that in Arizona, where they go during our long cold winters, that a lot of people take that fake green turn grass stuff and line their driveways. that they spend hours every day sweeping the dirt and crud off them. But in Arizona, they do not get snow.
We do. In fact we get a LOT of snow. In one night we can get two or more feet of it!
SO WHAT ON EARTH IS THIS MAN THINKING TO CARPET HIS GODDAMN DRIVEWAY??
Yeah. WTF?
Family Fun - Pool
When I was a girl we lived in two different houses in DL. The first house, I was shocked and very very happy when a group of guys, some big trucks, and a FULLY ASSEMBLED pool table showed up in our yard.
I had no idea my parents were getting a pool table for our basement. It was kind of scary watching they guys bring the table down stairs. Since it was fully assembled, and since the slate weighs a tonne, it was quite an experience. By the time they got it downstairs (ropes tied to a truck backing up, btw, not men trying to carry it!) One of the legs was busted off and the pool table felt had a big rip in it.
This all happened before the age of the internet, and we had to just deal with the rip in the felt. my dad used crazy glue and glued it down, but it was never as good as new felt would have been.
It's amazing how easy it is now to get new felt - just go online. Border Billiards dot com offers several different brands of felt as well as four different colors. I've always loved the red pool felt, although hubs told me that the red is for playing snooker ... I think that's what he called it.
Pool tables can be expensive, but the one my dad bought when we were little was fifty dollars. It was banged up, sure, but with the availability the internet offers, you can get replacement parts for just about any part of the table.
We have a huge room downstairs that eventually we want to fill with a pool table. Right now the kids are more into playing with toys and running around, but in a few years I can see the boys and their friends laughing as they shoot pool.
Seeing as border billiards gives free shipping on orders over $25, that's an added incentive for me to find an old beat up table so me and hubs can refinish it ourselves. And you know what? i don't care if red is for snooker! I want it!
