After four very long years...

A year ago I found a pillow in the sears catalog - actually, I found it online, but that's basically the same thing. Any way, the pillow was white with varying sized circles, some solid, some outlines, in pinks, greens, yellows and burgundy. From that one pillow, we decorated our entire master bedroom. I don't want to seem smug, but it turned out very very well. I know for a fact that had we not found that pillow, our bedroom would be the same boring white on white as I'd was when we moved in. I am very decoratively challenged. I have a very hard time seeing what colors go with what, and how to accessorize. I needed that pillow as an inspirational point. It is now the focal point in our room, it is what ties everything together.

When we moved into this house I told my husband that the dark grey wall color in the living room HAD to go, and so did the streaky light grey paint in the hall and kitchen. I hate the colors sooo SO much, but they have stayed for two reasons.
1. The previous owners did such a nasty job painting - I'm talking about literal CHUNKS of the foam paintbrushes they used are sticking out if the wall- that we will gave to sand down every single wall before we can even prime It!

And 2. I had no freaking ideas for what colors I wanted on the walls in place of the dark and light greys.

That ALL changed today. I found my focal point. I found my inspiration!

I added this water mark myself. This photo was taken by a talented photographer I know, her website, where you can find other pictures just as breathtaking as this can be found here.

I'm going to paint the living room a deep chocolate- maybe heading into the cinnamon red areas, I will have to find paint swatches and decide on the exact color at a later date. The recessed nook will match the kitchen and hall color will be as close to the main beige, light browns in the leaf as I can get. I am going to put up a new chair rail around the kitchen, painted white, and will do my damnedest to convince Micah we need to change the front door to something with a frosted window, and I would also Love to change wall the door frames in the upstairs to look like this (except in a white):

The door frames might not be possible, we have two full length closer type doors, six regular dikes (including the Harare and front door ) and three smaller doors (linen closet, pantry and brook closet ) so re-doing the door frames could get super expensive. Plus, because any new door trim would be wider than what is on now so it could be done at any time without having to worry about the paint! (edited to add - I would also have to re trim the window so it matched the doors)

Well? What do you think?
